Ordering Krax to kill Ada, Markoff tells Altman that he will become the founder of the Church of Unitology, after which Markoff had Krax killed when he deemed him "expendable". Forcing Altman to continue regardless of the danger the Marker posed, Markoff leaves everyone inside the facility to die when Necromorphs attacked, solely so he could record video footage of how the Necromorphs and the Marker operate. Breaking into Michael Altman's house to torture information out of him about the Marker, Markoff forced Altman, his girlfriend Ada, and Altman's coworkers to retrieve the Marker, which led to several of Markoff's employees killing themselves or losing their minds due to the Marker's influence on them. Complete Monster: Craig Markoff is a high-ranking military officer who is obsessed with unearthing the Marker.In this version of the book, it's entirely possible they're actually the dead trying to stop the Marker from destroying humanity. However, the ghosts are constantly talking about how they should leave the Marker alone and sabotaging the efforts to claim it. Alternate Character Interpretation: Michael Altman believes the ghosts of the dead are the Marker communicating using the memories of the living. ![]()
